On Sept. 30, 2010, Denver Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) joined the City & County of Denver and Adams County to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the redevelopment of the historic American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO) site. The MOU represents a formal agreement by all parties to cooperate in the redevelopment of the 77-acre site located in both Denver and Adams Counties.
Using a mix of proceeds from the ASARCO bankruptcy proceedings, a HUD Section 108 Loan to Adams County, tax increment financing, and community development block grant funds from the City and County of Denver, Brownfield Partners will perform environmental remediation on the site and eventually undertake redevelopment of approximately 1 million square feet of light industrial space.
The former ASARCO property has been the subject of investigations and remedial actions for more than 20 years. Upon completion of remediation efforts, a new “Globeville Commerce Center” will open with a potential 1.1 million square feet of commercial space.
The proposed Globeville campus is expected to provide a blend of product types to promote and encourage occupancy as industrial tenants across the metro area look to relocate or expand.
