Tracy Huggins named 2010 CREW Denver “Woman of Influence”

DURA Executive Director Tracy Huggins was recognized by CREW Denver as its 2010 “Woman of Influence” award-winner at the organization’s 11th Annual Women of Influence awards luncheon on Oct. 26.

Refusing to let the current economic crisis keep DURA from completing its important mission, Huggins has worked determinedly with her staff and 11-member board to enhance and renew Denver’s urban spaces. Under her steadfast leadership, DURA completed three major projects for the City and County of Denver in 2010:

  • DURA helped Oakwood Homes purchase Dahlia Square in northeast Park Hill. Due to the challenging credit market, Oakwood was not in a position to begin building on the site immediately after closing and, therefore, was unable to secure immediate financing from its lender.  Because DURA does not have the same requirements as a typical lender and it recognized that the credit market was in a state of chaos, it was able to step into the shoes of the lender for Oakwood and help facilitate the purchase.
  • DURA was instrumental in working with existing property owners at Alameda Square to facilitate a sale of a major portion of the site to a developer. Brighton Corporation purchased the portion with plans of opening the first Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Denver, which has since opened its doors. DURA also worked to relocate the existing tenants, keeping 10 of the 13 tenants in Denver.
  • As the financier of schools in Stapleton, DURA successfully refinanced over $200 million in bonds to fund a much-needed third K-8 school in Stapleton

In total, CREW Denver recognized 16 nominees for the “Woman of Influence” award, which is given to a woman in commercial real estate or related fields who realigned a project onto a new and more successful path, re-energized a building or company to new capacities, restructured a project to completion by changing course when necessary, regenerated business by focusing on unique opportunities or removing obstacles, or rebuilt a company, enterprise or project by focusing on the future.
