The Denver Urban Renewal Authority’s (DURA) Board of Commissioners today announced Jim Martinez as its new chairman. In this role, Martinez will provide leadership to the board, guiding discussion around organizational priorities, policy and programs. He is the first Latino to fill the board chair position at DURA.

“Jim’s significant experience in economic development will prove invaluable to DURA’s success as we continue to promote economic growth and opportunity through urban revitalization and renewal efforts,” said Tracy Huggins, executive director of DURA.
Martinez is the director of business development for CM Strategy Group, a federal, state and local procurement advocate firm that specializes in business development and building relationships between the public and private sector. Martinez has been active on the DURA board since his appointment in 2002. As a former vice chairman, he also most recently was the chair of the Strategic Planning and Legislative committee.
“From projects like the Denver Pavilions and Elitch Gardens that improve our urban core to developments like Dahlia Square and Alameda Square that reshape our city's neighborhoods, DURA has helped make Denver a better place to live, and I look forward to my continued involvement with the board, staff and our partners,” said Jim Martinez.
Martinez is the former regional manager at the U.S. Census Bureau for the States of Colorado and Wyoming and was the deputy director of the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade (MOED/IT) from 2000 to 2003. He served as an executive assistant under Denver Mayor Wellington Webb, coordinating housing and sports issues, as well as cultural and intergovernmental affairs. He is also a former political consultant and served on several citywide projects and campaigns including the baseball stadium campaign. Martinez formerly served as a member of the White House advance staff and currently is on the board of the Police Activity League and former member of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
