Earlier this month, the Denver Urban Renewal Authority (DURA) received approval from the Denver City Council to help bridge the financing gap for the redevelopment and restoration of the Colorado National Bank building through the use of tax increment financing.
The project, which is being redeveloped by Stonebridge Companies, is a conversion of the existing bank building into a full-service hotel with 230 guest rooms, a signature restaurant and lounge, and approximately 6,000 square feet of meeting space. Stonebridge Companies will add two new floors to the historic building to accomplish its vision for the project.
Located at 17th and Champa, the building falls within the downtown Denver, 52-block urban renewal area and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been vacant since 2007.
In the lobby of the Colorado National Bank building are 16 Allen Tupper True murals, which will be refurbished and restored through DURA’s Project Art commitment. DURA believes that art such as the murals are integral to community revitalization and maintains a strong commitment to incorporating it into the organization's redevelopment projects throughout the City of Denver.
7News (KMGH-TV) and The Denver Post recently profiled the redevelopment if you would like to know more.
