The Denver Business Journal named Tracy Huggins, executive director of the Denver Urban Renewal Authority, as one of its 2011 “Outstanding Women in Business” award winners. Huggins was recognized in the Real Estate and Construction category, which also featured finalists Margaret Kelly from RE/MAX International and Mary Sullivan from Jones Lange LaSalle Americas.
Now in its 13th year, the Denver Business Journal “Outstanding Women in Business” awards recognize community leaders for their professional accomplishments, innovation, entrepreneurship and commitment to the community.
“I feel honored and humbled to be recognized by the judging committee,” said Huggins, who has been DURA’s executive director since 2000. “The Outstanding Women in Business luncheon is very important because it shines a light on the progress women have made in business and in their communities.”
With nearly two decades of service to the people and businesses of Denver, Huggins has played a critical role in facilitating economic development, creating jobs and catalyzing the city’s redevelopment sector to create a better Denver for everyone to enjoy.
“I’ve known Tracy for over 12 years, and I’ve seen her take on every difficult project that’s been put in front of her and make it a success – not just for today, but for the next 25 years, as well,” said Jim Martinez, chair of DURA’s Board of Commissioners. “She is a positive leader that understands how Denver works, and where the City would like to see it go in the future.”
In addition to her outstanding work at DURA, Huggins is also very involved in the community. She is on the boards of directors at the Colorado I Have a Dream Foundation, the Mountain States Employers Council, the Gold Crown Foundation, the 9 Health Fair Finance Committee and served on the Denver Housing Authority board of directors for 10 years.
